Rawan is the founder, principal lawyer and executive director of the Australian Centre for International Justice (ACIJ). She is experienced in refugee protection, administrative law, international criminal justice and international human rights law. Prior to founding ACIJ, Rawan worked as a refugee lawyer at a Sydney-based community legal centre, providing a wide range of protection advice to people seeking asylum in Australia.

She has also worked with Adalah in Haifa, a legal centre protecting the rights of Palestinians, both citizens of Israel and those living under military occupation. She is actively engaged with a global network of lawyers working in universal jurisdiction litigation and in 2018 trained with the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR), Berlin, working closely with the International Crimes and Accountability team on universal jurisdiction matters. Rawan is an arts and law graduate of the University of Sydney and has completed specialist human rights and international law courses at the European University Institute in Florence.

Rawan is completing a Master of Laws from the University of New South Wales and is a fellow of the Centre for Australian Progress. Rawan has appeared in various media, including BBC World, ABC News, The Guardian and The Wall Street Journal.
