Meera Fernandes is an educational designer by day and a community campaigner, organiser, and activist at all other times. Their work is grounded in the intersections of Palestine, First Nations justice, climate and anti-military, all rooted in human rights and anti-racist and anti-casteist ideology. Her activism started in India, having moved there one year after the Modi government came into power. She was present in and active in India during demonetisation, the CAA and NRC Protests, COVID and the farmers’ protests.

SInce her move back to the colonial state of Australia, Meera has been heavily involved with Free Palestine Central Vic which operates on the stolen lands of the Dja Dja Wurrung. As a key member of the strategy committee, she has been involved in various campaigns, projects and events. Within the local Castlemaine community, she has been involved with other groups such as Central Vic Climate Action and First Nations Solidarity Network as well as being on the campaign team for Wadawurrung woman, Kelly Ann Blake, who was the first Indigenous woman in the Liyanganyuk Banyuk Shire to run for local council in 2024. She was also a key organiser of the Vigil for Gaza held as part of anti-war movement Disrupt Land Forces in 2024.

Meera is currently focussing her efforts on coalition building within the Castlemaine community, aiming to build connections and support between local activist groups, unions and council with the aim of creating solidarity, community and change.
